ATSA Defence Services today announced the sale of their “Tether Connector Mk II” product to Saab Underwater Systems of Sweden.
Engineering Director, Darren Burrowes, said that the sale was a major milestone for the Thornton-base Defence SME. “We developed the Tether Connector Mk II design to provide a faster and lower risk way to connect to the Double Eagle Mine Disposal Vehicle. Sea trials with the Royal Australian Navy have shown that it is a robust and reliable design and we are very pleased to announce the sale to Saab for upgrade of Royal Swedish Navy equipment”.
The “Tether Connector Mk II” is a major export success for ATSA and is the result of a continuous process of engineering innovation leading to an R&D project that was begun with internal company funding in 2002. ATSA’s R&D effort has enabled innovation of new products based on lessons learned from operation of the “Double Eagle” Mine Disposal System in the harsh conditions faced by the RAN in Australian waters. ATSA has offered the product to the RAN and is hopeful of a sale in 2009/2010.
